Paper Necklace

Help your daughter make a lovely necklace using some simple materials. Make sure to use small, child-friendly scissors.
Materials
Colored construction paper (colors of your choice)
Straws Child-friendly
scissors
Glue
A piece of elastic or string 45 cm long (colored if available)
  1. Give your daughter a piece of colored construction paper. Show her how to cut it approximately 10 cms wide. Then show her how to cut its length the same as the length of a straw.
  2. Bend this piece of paper in half, and then re-open it as shown.
  3. Have her glue the crease in the middle of the paper and lay the straw in the middle so it sticks.
  4. Help her put some more glue on the edges of the paper and then fold the paper over the straw so the edges meet and stick together.
  5. Show her how to press the paper hard then let it dry.
  6. Using the scissors, assist her in cutting it into smaller pieces similar to each other in size. Then, cut these smaller pieces into different attractive shapes.
  7. Make some more shapes using other colors of construction paper by repeating all the steps.
  8. Attach the shapes to the piece of elastic or string by putting it through the straw.
You will have a lovely colorful necklace. Tie it from the back around your daughter’s neck making sure that it is not too tight, and that the knot is easy to untie for both you and her!
